Leyland’s Torotrak Completes £23m Takeover
May 21, 2014
Low carbon vehicle technology engineering company Torotrak has acquired Flybrid Automotive Ltd, technology leaders in flywheel-based hybrid systems for vehicles, in a deal worth up to £23m.
The company said the purchase of the remaining 80 per cent of Silverstone-based Flybrid provides a platform for the joint development and launch of Flybrid's Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) technology for various vehicle applications.
Torotrak, based on Aston Way, Leyland, believes the combination of the two businesses will allow for the development of low-cost, high-performance, hybrid systems for mass market adoption in both cars and commercial vehicles.
As part of the deal, Flybrid’s managing director, Jon Hilton, will join the board of Torotrak, along with Doug Cross, Flybrid's technical director, joining the company.
