November 2013

Conlon Construction has been appointed to build a new £1.2m sports annexe at Runshaw College.

The new 2 storey sports annexe will centralise the School of Sport at the College and will include eight new classrooms, two of which will be fitted with state-of-the-art IT equipment. It will be located adjacent to the Hawkshead Sports Hall and provide 770 square metres of space including support areas, staff rooms and an accessible lift.

The 30-week construction project to build the annex is due to be completed ready for students to use in the 2014/15 academic year.

David Sharrock, assistant principal at Runshaw College, said: “The plans to build an annex to sit beside our existing sports hall are a really exciting development, it will centralise the School of Sport, giving this key area the facilities to be World Class. “Conlon is a local firm with a wealth of experience in the education sector, so seemed the perfect fit for delivering the building project, having previously carried out projects on site.

Michael Conlon, chairman at Conlon Construction, added: “We are delighted to have been awarded this project at Runshaw College, which will work to centralise all sports facilities.

“This investment from the college demonstrates its commitment to improving the learning and teaching facilities for all students and staff, ensuring that they have the space required to maximise all learning opportunities.”
